1/2 of the reason we play this as opposed to a video game is for the opportunity to be creative with your friends. I love the idea of a melee being more than spank and tank.Īnd honestly, I think it's important to have unique things about your character. I'm moving in a couple weeks to a completely new area and have old friends already set up to have some game time with and I'll probably use this base for one of my chars I'll use in a campaign we're going to start. This is super cool sounding - but also a lot for me to have to manage with two characters. What you've suggested is exactly what I'd do if I was running a single character (like normal). So, for this campaign, we're running a really, really small group, and I'm actually doubling up on characters. With a full attack you get the Slam>Rush>Overrun with riders on every attack. There are ways to take this further but this is the basis for it. If you squeeze in Improved Trip and Greater trip you can trigger the entire Slam>Free Bullrush>Free Overrun with all the damage riders again as a AoO when you trip with Maelstrom shields. If you succeed with it you do damage again, get a free overrun, and do damage again, and yet more damage if you manage to hit with it. What you want is Siegebreaker fighter for two levels, slayer for another two (just so you can grab Shield Slam from the ranger combat style).īeyond that I suppose you might go for something like Abyssal Bloodrager, strenght and size is great.Īnyway, for feats you want something like Improved Bullrush, Improved Overrun, Viscious Stomp, Power Attack and Spiked Destroyer.īuy a Maelstrom shield as soon as possible.īasically you shieldslam someone, do damage with the shield, gets a free trip attempt, if they get tripped you get a free unarmed AoO attack, then you get a free bullrush, do damage. Shieldbashers gets the most ridonculous number of attacks if they keep hitting. Granted, eventually it's going to be more about the +dmg, but still, you know, I'm supposed to be bashing heads in, not making them laugh. To wrap up, am I missing anything? It seems reaaaaally weak to have only a 1d4 for my primary attack. Using PCGen (my preferred choice for organizing my characters, it shows me as having: Weapon Focus - Shieldbash (Fighter Bonus Feat).Improved Shield Bash (1st level feat - bonus Human). My main problem is that standard shield damage is really poo, it's like 1d4, and when I have the option of doubling that damage on practically any weapon, it seems really weak to put myself in that position.Ĭurrently, as a Human Fighter running a High Fantasy Point buy-in, I have: I suppose I can consider it, but I'd rather do all my damage with a shield, two handed if possible, because, smash. I saw a lot of TWF builds, but I'm not really too interested in TWF, as I don't like it to begin with. I'm looking at making a shield fighter, with emphasis on the shield and fighter. ![]() So, after using google a bit, I can only find a lot of outdated information on shields/shield builds, thus I turn to the experts.
